Chapter 1. Question 2: Lifelong learning is not just a teacher preference; it is also a requirement for maintaining state certification. Technology literacy courses and workshops are some of the most popular learning experiences for certificate extension and renewal. Do you believe that taking additional courses in technology literacy is an important as those for your content or discipline? Is too much emphasis being placed on developing and maintaining technology competency? Defend your view. I believe it is important to be able to understand how to use technology. Technology is used in almost every aspect of life today. Today in education technology is used in classrooms all across America. I believe taking technology workshops are highly beneficial to todays teacher. I am a history teacher, I use different computer programs and websites in my classroom daily, many of these programs fit the needs of today's education. It is important that I understand and am comfortable navigating through these programs. I do not believe there is too much emphasis being placed on developing or maintaining technology competency simply because this is the way life is today. Every single person I know today uses technology. Technology allows teachers to provide other ways for students to learn the desired course material. In a classroom if you tell your students to go grab a textbook and read the chapter then answer the questions in the back of the book, why that will be acceptable for some students, not all students learn best that way. Technology allows for many different reliable sources for the students to learn that may better fit their needs. Technology can provide videos, articles, online programs, pictures, read-to-text, etc.. Chapter 2, Question 3: You have learned about a variety of technologies useful to support learning in this chapter. With which one of these are you most comfortable? Which are most useful in helping to prepare 21stcentury learners? Describe the technology and its potential applications in the grade level or content area you wish to teach and demonstrate why it is most appealing to you. The technology I am must comfortable using would probably the technology used to assess competency. Teachers need to be able to assess students to see if they have mastered the curriculum or not. Grading tests can be a long-time consuming task when done in a traditional manner, however, thanks to online programs today such as Google Forms, and EasyTestMaker teachers can create and grade tests in seconds. Other assessments programs such as FolioSpaces or Rubristar are great for creating rubrics or assessing projects and portfolios. Rubristar is very simple to navigate and use. It creates a syllabus for an assignment for your students in a matter of minutes. I think technology that helps foster creativity are the most useful to 21st century learners. Programs such as LiveBinder or Inspiration allow students to reorganize concepts they have learned in class into their own unique way. They also help students brainstorm new ideas and solutions to problems they may find with completing their work. Technology that fosters creativity are what I would strive to teach my students (9th-12th grade) the most, because it helps students develop critical thinking skills that can be used in the classroom and in life. These are valuable traits that can help improve a student’s future. Chapter 3, Question 1: Instructional planning is a skill every educator at every grade level must master. To integrate technology into instruction, a logical, sequential approach is needed to help teachers to clarify which technologies are most useful and at what points they should be included in the process. Discuss Design-Plan-Act (DPA) system – what it is, how the three distinct planning components of DFA differ, and why it is helpful to use a system approach to integrate technology? When integrating technology into instruction in the classroom the DPA help teachers clarify when technologies are most useful and at what points they should be implemented. The DPA system is broken down into 3 main parts: 1. Design- the overall content and sequence in the instructional unit 2. Plan- articulate the specific daily lesson plans needed to complete the unit 3. Act- develop an instructional action plan for each day of unit instruction This is a helpful system because it helps build the best possible learning environment for your students because all aspects of the lesson must be planned. A DPA system can help teachers identify what programs will help their students succeed in the lesson at-hand. Here are my google presentation and my story
